Defensive Shooting Practice

The Defensive (Tactical) Shooting Practice will be held at the range from 6:30-9pm on the first Thursday of the month starting November 2011.

Goal: To provide members of Red River Regional Marksmanship Center the ability to practice defensive and personal protection shooting outside of normal shooting and competitive shooting parameters.

Equipments Requirements: Outside the belt holster (covers the trigger), belt, pistol or revolver (9mm/38 special minimum) along with extra magazines for semi-automatics and speed loaders for revolvers. 100 rounds of ammunition.

Prerequisite: State and demonstrate the three fundamental rules for safe gun handling. Demonstrate the ability to shoot three five-shot groups with a qualifying pistol or revolver from 7 yards on a blank 8.5” x 11” target (targets provided).

Cost: $15 to the range (program for RRRMC members only).

Details: This is not a competition; it is defensive shooting range practice.

Course of fire will be based on, but not limited to, the NRA personal protection in the home course and the NRA personal protection outside the home course.

Shooting will be done from holstered and un-holstered (low and retention positions) firearms, while learning to fix problems quickly, and change magazines or ammo fast and safely.

Stances will include isosceles, Weaver, Chapman, kneeling (supported and unsupported) and prone.

Each course of fire will be performed in the open, behind cover or concealment.
