Volunteer Profile
Her bright smile and cheerful greeting
are familiar to the Thursday shooters at the RRRMC. Jan Luptak,
of Horace, has been a range member since April 2010 and a front
desk volunteer since May 2011. She’s the first – and last - face
many shooters see during Thursdays’ open shoots.
“Meeting and greeting are my favorite
part of volunteering,” Jan says. She enjoys communicating with
people and getting to know them better. And no one leaves the
center without sharing. “How was your experience?” she asks with
a smile.
A former deer hunter, Jan joined the
range to get back into shooting, and began volunteering as a way
to contribute. Her volunteer duties include “whatever needs to
be done”: sales, desk work, clean-up, managing the phone and
checking in shooters. She also volunteers during events such as
December’s gun show. With her characteristic enthusiasm, Jan
encourages others to donate their time and efforts to
RRRMC as well.
To volunteer, complete a volunteer card
at the front desk.
Volunteer Profile will be featured
regularly in future issues of the newsletter.

Volunteer
Appreciation Dinner
Center members and volunteers enjoyed an appreciation dinner
and drawing on November 16, 2011. Neil Dockter was the lucky
winner of the drawing for a Ruger SR9 pistol engraved with
“RRRMC-2011.”

Hartwig, RRRMC vice president, and Neil Dockter, drawing winner.
Gun Shows
Sales were “brisk” at December’s annual
RRRMC gun show, according to
vendors. More than 70 vendors and organizations, such as the Sheyenne Valley Peacekeepers (top picture), participated. The show
was well attended and tables are already booked for next year’s
show.
Volunteers
manned the RRRMC booth at the 34th annual Dakota
Territory Gun Collectors Gun Show on January 7, 2012 at the
Fargo Civic. They were promoting the range and selling
memberships. Left to right: Miranda Wilcox, zombie target, Chuck
Hanson and Larry Cihacek. A Zombie Shoot is scheduled for
Friday, January 13, 2012.

Concealed Carry
Permit Update
A letter I received dated December
27th, 2011, from the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal
Investigation concerning renewals of the North Dakota Concealed
Permit that states in part:
"The renewal time period begins 180 days prior to expiration and
continues to the date of expiration. An expired license cannot
be renewed.
NOTE: if you begin the
renewal process fewer than 90 days prior to the expiration
date, you can still renew BUT your license to carry concealed
will be invalid from the date of the expiration until the
renewed license is issued and you will not be able to carry
concealed during that time. To avoid a lapse in licensing, the
BCI recommends that you begin the process at the earliest
opportunity."

The Six Fundamentals
of Pistol Shooting
In this edition, we will
cover the basics of the third fundamental of pistol shooting:
Sight Alignment.
Sight alignment is the most
important contribution to firing an accurate shot.
In order for the bullet to hit the center of the target, the
shooter must aim the pistol and give the barrel a definite
direction relative to the target.
A requisite for correct aiming is the ability to maintain the
relationship between the front and rear sights. When aiming the
front sight is positioned in the middle of the rear sight notch
with an equal light space on each side. The horizontal top
surface of the front sight is on the same level as the top
horizontal surface of the rear sight notch.
Correct sight alignment must be thoroughly understood and
practiced. It appears on the surface as a simple thing - this
lining up of two objects, front and rear sights. The problem
lies in the difficulty in maintaining these two sights in
precise alignment while the shooter is maintaining a minimum arc
of movement and pressing the trigger to cause the hammer to fall
without disturbing sight alignment.
The solution is in focusing the eye on the front sight during
the delivery of the shot.
The sight picture is the
relationship between the sights and target.
Defensive Shooting Practice
Our goal in Defensive Shooting Practice is to
provide members of Red River Regional Marksmanship Center the
ability to practice defensive and personal protection shooting
outside of normal shooting and competitive shooting parameters
in a safe, controlled yet fun recreational atmosphere.
Providing the opportunity
to improve basic marksmanship skills in a safe, controlled,
yet fun and recreational atmosphere including an introduction to
NRA conventional pistol competition and assisting novice
marksmen and women learn the fun of regular marksmanship
practice.
Teaching basic marksmanship skills
in a safe controlled environment and introducing marksmen and
women to the world of competitive Air pistol shooting.
